Can I used Compact Flash memory cards on my NX? Now you can. You can purchase a driver from a company called EruWare. It costs $27 and can be purchased from www.eruwarestore.com Do I need a Magic Gate (white) Memory Stick to play MP3's on my Clie? No, any Memory Stick will allow MP3's to work. You do need the Magic Gate stick to play ATRAC3 music though. Do the Magic Gate Memory Sticks restrict MP3 and movie playback? No, MP3's and movies play exactly the same on Magic Gate, Memory Stick Pro and Memory Stick Duo as they do on the normal Memory Sticks. Magic Gate and Memory Stick Pro only restrict the playback of ATRAC3 audio. How do I take movies from my Clie and make them playable on my PC? You can use MSImport and then copy the files out of /MQ_ROOT/100MQV01/ folder on your Memory Stick. These files will have an extension of .MQV. (There are some files with a .MAI extension on the Memory Stick, but these just hold information about the movie, such as a thumbnail.) Once the movies are on your PC, then you can either rename the files so they have an extension of .MOV and you can open them with Quicktime. (You must have version 6 of Quicktime.) If you don't want to rename the files, you can double-click the file and Windows will ask you what application you want to open the file with. Tell it to open it with Quicktime, and make sure that you have the open to always open with file with that program checked. Then whenever you double-click a .MQV file, it will open in Quicktime. Can I convert the movie files to another format? If you have QuickTime Pro (the pay version) you will have an option to export the file. Then you can export it to other formats such as .AVI. Will I be able to upgrade the OS on my machine to OS6? This is not known. It is technically possible to do since the NX's have flash ROM, but it is not known if the devices are even capable to run OS6, or if Sony will support an update. I tried to install NetFront, and I have a file in RAM called NetFront_inst, but I don't see the icon anywhere. What's wrong? When installing NetFront, you MUST have at least 6MB of free RAM. You don't need that much to run it, just to install it. So, if you need to, just move some files to the Memory Stick temporarily. Delete the NetFront_inst file from RAM, and try Hotsyncing it again. After Hotsync, you will have to restart your Clie. It should run now and you can move your files back to RAM. How come some of my Macromedia Flash files don't playback the sound? Some files use MP3 sound to playback the audio. The original NX Clies didn't support that until recently. There is now an update for that found here. Where do my files go on the Memory Stick? Different types of files have special folders they must go to on the Memory Stick. Here's a list of locations for different files:
1 Note that movie files must be named in the format MOV0****.MQV (or .MPG), where * is any number. |
