Cameron Bulock's NX Page

Hi, welcome to my page dedicated to the Sony Clié NX series handhelds. I would like to have links to all of the useful software and tips for people just getting started using there NX device, and even for people who want to get the most out of it.

Just so there isn't any confusion, this page will mainly focus on the NX60/70 devices, though much of the info here will also apply to the NX73/80 devices too. I own an NX60, so naturally, that's what I'm going to focus on.

If you know of any software that should be listed, or have links to other sites that would be useful to NX users, please send me an e-mail to cameron(at)bulock.com

I have been working on a tutorial for the status bar skins for the NX, but it has been quite a bit of work. I have a Photoshop template for making status skins mostly finished. You can download it here if your interested.

I have now found a hosting company to host this website. I hope everything works out well. If there are any page outages, it is probably because I will be changing settings around and moving stuff over. If links aren't working, please e-mail me as I might have missed something.

NX Skinning Links
I've added some links to some skinning resources, such as the ZLauncher Theme Maker, ArrowSkin for Okey, and more.

NX FAQ
Here is a FAQ that I have started for the NX. There are only a few questions now, but I plan to add more as I get around to it.

Yahoo Group
Here is a Yahoo group I started and is a great place where some Clié discussion can be started and useful files shared. Any suggestions, e-mail me.

Making 16-Bit Virtual Graffiti Backgrounds using CodeDiver
The standard VG area allows for only 256 colors to be used for skins, with this tutorial learn how to make backgrounds with over 65,000 colors.

NxSkinGen Tutorial
I have added some instructions on how to make your own Virtual Graffiti skins using the free NxSkinGen software. I also have some instructions on how to use the skins on your NX.

NX Launcher Comparison (Please note)
I am
going to be discontinuing this link in the near future. There have been many advancements in launchers since I have last updated the chart. I used to test out different launchers when they were updated, by now I only use ZLauncher. It has added almost every feature that every other launcher has. Plus, it's updated faster than I can keep track. SilverScreen has been updated to version 3, but the latest update adds only minimal improvement. MegaLauncher has had some updates, but I personally don't like that launcher, so I haven't tested it since it first came out with version 4, so I have an unfair opinion. Launcher X has not had a single update since the chart was first made. I would almost consider that application dead, though there are rumors that there is an update on the way. This app has had many rumors that never surfaced, so I don't know what to think.

Virtual Graffiti and Status Bar Skins and Backgrounds
Here I have some skins and backgrounds that will work great on the NX. These one's are all my creations. For more check out this section at Cliésource.

Software

AcidImage
AcidImage is a great replacement for the built-in image viewer. It stores the thumbnails of the images so they don't have to be rescanned like the Sony image viewer. AcidImage also allows images to be stored anywhere on the Memory Stick.

CodeDiver
With this utility, you can customize every app with backgrounds, create your own silkskins, use startup macros, change the font, and even turn some hires programs into hires+. Each app on your Clié can have it's own settings too. WARNING, if your not comfortable messing with the settings in your Clié, you might want to avoid this. This app interrupts the functioning of the operating system, so you might end up crashing your Clié a few times. But if you like changing every little thing to your liking, this is the app for you.

Filez (freeware)
Filez is a great freeware file manager that complements the built-in Clié Files. If you really get into file management, you will find that Filez is not only fast, but is very powerful.

HandyShopper (freeware)
HandyShopper is a great way to keep your shopping list organized and is also good for just about any other kind of list you might need.

iSilo
iSilo is a great document viewer and off-line web browser when used with iSiloX. For more info on iSilo, check out Turcic.com.

LCD Analyzer (freeware)
This is a great little utility that can be used to check your screen for problems such as dead pixels. It is also cool just to see some of the capabilities of these great screens.

Lubak's Fonts for Clié NX
This is a great download and gives the NX's a much needed font improvement. Not only do these fonts look more stylish, if you read a lot on your Clié, your eyes will appreciate the thickness of these fonts. You can choose from four fonts.

McPhling
Easily switch between apps without having to go back to the launcher. Keeps track of your favorite apps and your most recently used apps and allows you to switch between them.

NX Movie Aide
Name your movies anything you want, no longer have to deal with files named MOV00001.MQV. Makes handling all those media files a whole lot easier.

Okey (freeware)
This program adds more functions to the Jogdial and also adds buttons to the taskbar so you can use the hardkeys which can't be reached when in tablet mode.

PhotoSkin
Photoskin will allow you to change the Graffiti area of your Clié with different skins. You can also change your status bar. Check out this link for some of my skins, or check out CliéSource for many more.

ZLauncher
This is a great replacement for the built-in program launchers. With ZLauncher, you can organize all of your apps into categories, even apps on your Memory Stick. You can make the launcher look the way you want it to by adding your own backgrounds and with skins. This software is updated on a very consistent basis, so if there is a feature you would like to see, it probably won't be long until it is included.
